Phonics Alive! 2 builds essential reading skills & phonological knowledge of blending sounds.

If you would like to teach a young child to read, are learning English as a Second Language or have an older student with reading difficulties, this program is highly recommended.

This program is being widely used around Australia in Primary schools and Intensive English Centers and in Secondary schools for remedial literacy with older students.

The Sound Blender introduces and consolidates advanced decoding skills to assist students to recognize and decode previously unknown words.

There are twelve self paced, interactive modules, each containing lessons to teach students, followed by interactive exercises and rhyming, blending & keyboard activities in the following areas:

2. Introduction of Consonant/Consonant/Vowel/Consonant words and sounds
3. Introduction of Consonant/Vowel/Consonant/Consonant words and sounds
4. Blending of 5 or 6 letter words
5. Blending of words with "SS", "LL" and "CK"
6. Blending of words with "CH", "SH" and "TH"
7. Blending words with long vowel sounds
8. Blending words with long vowel sounds "A" & "E"
9. Blending words with long vowel sounds "O" & "U"
10. Blending words with "OI", "OY", "AR" & "ALL"
11. Blending words with "OU/OW", "IR"/"ER"/"UR", "IGH/IE"
12. Blending words with "OR/ORE", "AW/AU", "PH", "KN", "WR"

Features

All progress can be recorded & results may be printed.

Once students have completed a module they may print a certificate at the end of that module. The certificate displays a percentage mark calculated on the number of times that the student chose the correct response on the first attempt.

Easy navigation and quick access to main menu at startup.

A computer voice-over has been designed to guide students through the program. Students do not require prior reading skills to use this program, so it is most suitable to develop English as a Second Language.

Option for parent/teacher to see on screen, all tasks included in the complete program.

Option to adjust speed settings.

A 134 page teaching guide with lowercase keyboard stickers, game cards and blackline masters based on each of the 12 modules on the CD, are included with School Versions, Lab Packs and Site Licences. A wonderful resource for all teachers.

Pentium 133MHz or faster IBM-compatible PC with SVGA display, 32 Mb RAM, 4 x CD-ROM player with 16 bit Sound Blaster compatible sound card, running Windows 95 or later. Display set to thousands of colours.
Macintosh Power PC running System 8.6 to 9.x, with 64 Mb Ram, a 14" monitor displaying thousands of colours, (16 bit) and a 4 x CD-ROM player.
*2 MacOS X Classic environment is currently used to run the programs.
