Maths Numeracy & Literacy software deals with basic mathematical
vocabulary and concepts.
The are presented in PM's tried and tested format of a series of stories
with very precise and controlled vocabulary suitable for early readers,
using a large, clear font, and with illustrations that are interesting,
colourful and relevant.
Twelve books on CD-ROM
Titles include: One Picture; A Picnic for Two; We Can See Three;
Four Cars; Five Birds and Five Mice; Red Block, Blue Block; Counting
Down; Big Shapes and Little Shapes; a Game with Shapes; Making a Butterfly;
Long and Short; and Sorting Leaves.
 Each
book deals with a mathematical topic such as the early numbers, shapes,
patterns, comparisons and simple data collection and presentation.

Strengthen Reading Confidence
PM Maths Numeracy & Literacy allows children to read and listen
to any of the books. There are many questions and activities related
to each story, which are designed to increase their confidence
with mathematical words and ideas.
Reading: Students can read each
book on the computer. The text and illustrations from the books is displayed
page by page.
Students can listen to the text being read (as prerecorded speech,
using an Australian accent), with an optional red underline that highlights
each word as it is spoken. This encourages students to follow the text
and to associate each word with its sound and its meaning in context.
Questions: Numerous questions are
included, designed to strengthen students' confidence with the vocabulary
and the concepts introduced in each book.
Depending on the teacher settings, the computer can optionally be made
to speak the test of the question, either automatically or on demand.
Activities: Related activities
are included for each book. These activities are more engrossing and
challenging than the questions.
Some involve solving puzzles such as building roads or herding sheep,
while others are more open-ended, such as designing your own butterfly!

Teacher Controls
Extensive controls allow teachers to:
- Create users in one or more different groups,
- Inspect the progress of any student of the whole group,
- Provide different settings for different groups.
These settings control such details as which books, questions and activities
are available, whether printing is permitted and when the computer speaks
the text.
